big note: i haven't played cat quest 1. i started at 2, got hooked, and am about halfway through cat quest 3.
cat quest ii: solo mode
in this punny roleplaying adventure you play as both a cat and a dog, switching between the two as your heart, health, or attack style demands. kirry, your intrepid guide, should get you through the quest to find the kingsblade... and that's when the game really begins.
without saying much, the frustration of locked spaces and locked crates that you can't access with a single run is healed with new game+, mew game, and mew game+, the latter with certain modifiers.
the first attention-grabber is the artstyle itself. the way characters move around the world reminds me a bit of paper dolls. speaking of moving around the world, in addition to walking, there's also travel through stars in a constellation, accessed through towers scattered around the map.
the controls are easy and, where they're not intuitive, they don't conflict and you don't risk hitting the inventory tab in a fight. incredibly conducive to button-mashing, if that's your preferred playstyle.
you know what both confounds and charms me, though? the constant pop culture references. i don't get most of them, and i can't tell if that's annoying or fun.
still, it's a dope game, and soon i will have 100% completion.
