i think that off the bat, you should know i had fun.
atomicrops is a bullet hell with farming elements and bright graphics. each run is presented as a year, with rounds representing months and each season having its own boss.
it plays awesomely with a handheld controller, though at first i thought it was a bit grindy because i hadn't gotten a handle on the genre.
there i was trying to be the best at farming when i should have been trying to be the best at fighting.
that's not to say that the farming aspect isn't immensely important. if you neglect it you won't survive the year. your overall success is measured by harvest, after all.
in my opinion the best part comes not when you've beaten your first year, but when you've unlocked your first permanent upgrades. this when is my favourite aspect of the game, map exploration, becomes key.
there are some downsides, most notably the accessibility features being a little suboptimal. they're not lacking, exactly, but i prefer to use aim assist when my thumbs can't handle the constant pressure. aim assist in atomicrops doesn't really come through for me like i'd hope.
if i were a more technical gamer, i could use words like mechanics and roguelite correctly. i don't, and refuse to learn. so overall, a solid game that never leaves my rotation.
